Treinta y Uno (31), or Treintaiuno, is a popular card game. It's a game where players try to get the highest hand value, aiming for 31 points.
The Goal: Reach 31!
The main objective is to have a hand of three cards that totals as close to 31 as possible. You want a hand with the highest score among all players at the end of a round.
Card Values: How to Count
Each card has a specific value:
Must Read
- Ace: Worth 11 points. Think of it as a "super" card!
- King, Queen, and Jack: These are all worth 10 points each.
- Number Cards (2-10): They are worth their face value. So, a 5 is worth 5 points.
Getting Started: The Deal
First, you need a standard deck of 52 cards. Each player receives three cards. The dealer also places one card face up in the middle of the table. This is the discard pile. The remaining cards become the draw pile.
Gameplay: Trading Cards
On your turn, you have two choices:

- Take a card from the draw pile. You add it to your hand. Then, you must discard one card face up onto the discard pile.
- Take the top card from the discard pile. You add it to your hand. Then, you must discard one card face up onto the discard pile.
The key is to strategically improve your hand each turn. You want to collect cards of the same suit to maximize your score or get closer to 31.
Suits: Sticking Together
Only cards of the same suit are added together. For example, if you have a Heart Ace (11 points), a Heart 10 (10 points), and a Spade 2 (2 points), your score is only 21 (11 + 10). The Spade 2 doesn't count because it's a different suit.

Knocking: Ending the Round
At any point in your turn, you can choose to "knock." This means you think your hand is good enough to win the round. All other players get one last turn to improve their hands.
Showdown: Comparing Scores
After the final turns, everyone reveals their hands. The player with the highest score wins the round. If someone has exactly 31, they instantly win the round, no matter what anyone else has.

Losing: Lives and Penalties
The player with the lowest score loses a "life." Players often start with three lives, marked by coins or other tokens. Once a player loses all their lives, they are out of the game.
Winning the Game: Last Player Standing
The game continues until only one player remains with lives. That player is the winner of Treinta y Uno!
Treinta y Uno is a fun and simple card game that requires strategy and a bit of luck. So, gather your friends, deal the cards, and aim for 31!
